Breakaway Cafe Reviews: A Disappointing Experience in Chapel Hill

As a local, I've had my fair share of dining experiences in Chapel Hill. Unfortunately, my recent visit to Breakaway Cafe left me underwhelmed and frustrated. The service was slow - it took an unacceptable 10 minutes for our order to be taken. We ordered the NY strip w/fries and a hamburger, which arrived promptly in five minutes. However, the bun was cold, fries were cold, and patty was good, but not enough to save the dish.

The real disappointment came with the NY strip, which was abysmal. It's clear that this restaurant prioritizes profits over quality and customer satisfaction. If you value kindness and respect, Breakaway Cafe is not the place for you. After trying to resolve our issues privately with the owners, I felt compelled to share my experience publicly.

The lack of empathy and concern from the management team was appalling. When we tried to resolve the issue, they offered a half-hearted apology with conditions that seemed more beneficial to them than us. It was clear that they were not interested in making things right. We ended up moving our lunch to Tandem, where we received exceptional service and kindness.

Unfortunately, Breakaway Cafe's poor behavior didn't stop there. When I contacted the owner about the issue, she mouthed a cursory apology but spent most of her time making excuses for their behavior. It was insulting and unprofessional.

In addition to the subpar service and food, we also witnessed the restaurant using handicapped parking spots for deliveries, which is illegal. The owner's response to our concern was dismissive and rude, displaying zero empathy or concern for individuals with disabilities like myself who struggle with walking due to a neurological disorder.

If you're looking for a positive dining experience in Chapel Hill, I recommend avoiding Breakaway Cafe and instead opting for one of the many other excellent restaurants in the area. There are plenty of options that prioritize customer satisfaction and respect, such as Tandem, which treated us like valued guests.
